It#39;s a common complaint: Fly on a crowded plane and come home with a cold. What#39;s in the air up there? Air travelers suffer higher rates of disease infection, research has shown. One study pegged the increased risk for catching a cold as high as 20%. And the holidays are a particularly infectious time of year, with planes packed full of families with all their presents and all those germs. Air that is recirculated throughout the cabin is most often blamed. But studies have shown that high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters on most jets today can capture 99.97% of bacterial and virus-carrying particles. That said, when air circulation is shut down, which sometimes happens during long waits on the ground or for short periods when passengers are boarding or exiting, infections can sp like wildfire. One well-known study in 1979 found that when a plane sat three hours with its engines off and no air circulating, 72% of the 54 people on board got sick within two days. The flu strain they had was traced to one passenger. For that reason, the Federal Aviation Administration issued an advisory in 2003 to airlines saying that passengers should be removed from planes within 30 minutes if there#39;s no air circulation, but compliance isn#39;t mandatory. Much of the danger comes from the mouths, noses and hands of passengers sitting nearby. The hot zone for exposure is generally two seats beside, in front of and behind you, according to a study in July in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A number of factors increase the odds of bringing home a souvenir cough and runny nose. For one, the environment at 30,000 feet enables easier sp of disease. Air in airplanes is extremely dry, and viruses tend to thrive in low-humidity conditions. When mucous membranes dry out, they are far less effective at blocking infection. High altitudes can tire the body, and fatigue plays a role in making people more susceptible to catching colds, too. Also, viruses and bacteria can live for hours on some surfaces岸some viral particles have been found to be active up to a day in certain places. Tray tables can be contaminated, and seat-back pockets, which get stuffed with used tissues, soiled napkins and trash, can be particularly skuzzy. It#39;s also difficult to know what germs are lurking in an airline#39;s pillows and blankets. Research has shown how easily disease can sp. Tracing influenza transmission on long-haul flights in 2009 with passengers infected with the H1N1 flu strain, Australian researchers found that 2% passengers had the disease during the flight and 5% came down within a week after landing. Coach-cabin passengers were at a 3.6% increased risk of contracting H1N1 if they sat within two rows of someone who had symptoms in-flight. That increased risk for post-flight disease doubled to 7.7% for passengers seated in a two-seat hot zone. 7.7%。The epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002-03 suggested a wider exposure zone, however. On one flight studied, one passenger sp a particular strain to someone seated seven rows away, while people seated next to the ill passenger didn#39;t contract the disease. That said, most people sitting near someone who is ill probably won#39;t get sick. #39;When you get aboard an aircraft, most of us don#39;t have a say on who we sit next to. But that doesn#39;t doom you to catching the flu,#39; said Mark Gendreau of Boston#39;s Lahey Clinic Medical Center. In 2005, he was part of a team that published a paper in the Lancet that concluded the perceived risk for travelers was higher than the actual risk, and that#39;s still the case today, he said.2005年,让德罗参加的一个研究小组在《柳叶刀》杂志(The Lancet)上发表了一篇论文,指出乘客被传染疾病的实际风险并没有人们所以为的那么高。 Even so, there are some basic precautions passengers can take to keep coughs away. Hydrate. Drinking water and keeping nasal passages moist with a saline spray can reduce your risk of infection. Clean your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. We often infect ourselves, touching mouth, nose or eyes with our own hands that have picked up something. Use a disinfecting wipe to clean off tray tables before using. Avoid seat-back pockets. Open your air vent, and aim it so it passes just in front of your face. Filtered airplane air can help direct airborne contagions away from you. Change seats if you end up near a cougher, sneezer or someone who looks feverish. That may not be possible on very full flights, but worth a try. One sneeze can produce up to 30,000 droplets that can be propelled as far as six feet. Raise concerns with the crew if air circulation is shut off for an extended period. Avoid airline pillows and blankets (if you find them). ;If you take the proper precautions, you should do quite well,#39; said Dr. Gendreau. #39;In most of us, our immune system does what it was designed to do protect us from infectious insults.;让德罗表示,只要采取适当的预防措施,就能够起到很好的效果。 You think the plane is bad? Security checkpoints harbor a host of hazards as well, researchers say. People get bunched up in lines, where there is plenty of coughing and sneezing. Shoes are removed and placed with other belongings into plastic security bins, which typically don#39;t get cleaned after they go through the scanner. A National Academy of Sciences panel is six months into a two-year study that is taking samples at airport areas to try to pinpoint opportunities for infection. With limited resources, airports and airlines have asked researchers to help figure out where best to target prevention, said Dr. Mark Gendreau of Boston#39;s Lahey Clinic Medical Center who is on the panel. Check-in kiosks and baggage areas are other prime suspects in addition to security lines, he said. /201201/166933It does make one wonder about why anyone with enough common sense would prefer to hang out with ;bad boy; instead of someone with good credentials. Here are a few reasons why girls like bad boys:很多人都有这样的疑问,为什么很多智商正常的女人会迷上坏男人,而不是那些好男人呢? Good guys play it safe. Whether it is any physical activity or taking an important decision, they are always hesitant. Bad boys, on the other hand, are primarily known for the sense of adventure they carry on their sleeves. They are not scared of taking risks and give girls a sense of adventure that they want to experience. Women want to have a feeling of power that these guys ily provide. Bad boys are seen as living life as it is meant to be lived. It is necessary here to define that bad boys do not mean criminals or anti-social elements but guys who lead happy lives by breaking norms rather than breaking laws (although the latter has its share of allure and fan following too). Bad boys, because of their propensity to leading the good life, are always clued in to the latest happenings and live with objects that good guys think twice before investing in. Mean bikes and jailbreaked Apple devices for example. Air of mystery神秘气质There is something utterly predictable about a good guy once you#39;ve known him for a while. His tastes do not change simply because the year has. A bad guy, however, doesn#39;t live by scruples. His main aim is to lead a happy life today. He is not bothered about his past nor worried about his future. The here and now and how that can be made better is all that matters to him. This lends an air of mystery to him and his actions because you can never predict what catches his fancy and how he will attain it from one day to the next. Good with girls易获芳心It is a known fact that bad guys know how to score with girls. It is one of the reasons why they are tagged as bad guys in the first place! Such a group knows how to woo a woman and make her feel special. They can talk to her and when they feel like it, also talk back to her, giving the girls an opportunity to be aggressive as well. Good guys avoid conflict at all costs, leaving girls with no window to vent their frustration. It#39;s biological基因所然Blame it on your forefathers, but the fact is that women are wired to seek out the most adventurous guy in any group. It goes back to survival of the fittest and other procreational jazz, but the short story is that, a woman will always prefer a man who is seen as taking initiative (with variable risk) over a steady guy waiting for something to happen to his life. Accept it: the only way of scoring with girls is to join this breed of bad boys and strike rich. Like it is said, if you can#39;t beat them, join them. In spite of all these points, it doesn#39;t mean that girls don#39;t like good guys at all. There are women who love the company of good guys and would pick them over the #39;bad boys#39; any given day. /201204/179095

;I do not blame others for my mistakes.I blame the same people every time!;我从来不因为我的错误责怪其他人,我每次总是责怪同一个人。 /201508/390079

My husband and I are both writers. During dinner conversations, we often tell our children about our working days. It wasn#39;t clear how much they absorbed until one day I overheard my seven-year- old, Lucy, cry out in frustration at her five-year-old sister, Charlotte, ;You, you... you editor!;我丈夫和我都是作家。 /201206/185584

Professor: Winnie, today we#39;re going to listen to Emily and Peter talking about movies on their blind date. Professor: I agree! Now let#39;s find out if they both like going to the movies in their free time.P: So Emily, what do you like to do for fun?E: I like to go to the movies. What do you do in your free time?P: I also like going to the movies.E: Well that#39;s great! It#39;s nice that we have something in common. 对了,Professor Bowman, doing something ;for fun; 和 doing something ;in your free time; 有区别么?P: They#39;re very similar. When you want to know what people#39;s hobbies are, you can ask them what they do ;for fun;, or what they do ;in their free time;.原来如此,那我可以说 ;I like studying English in my free time.;P: Exactly, Winnie! Now let#39;s listen and see when they go to the movies.E: When do you usually go to the movies?P: I usually go in my free time on the weekends. How about you?E: The movie theater is always so crowded on the weekends. I like to go to the movies during the week.P: That#39;s true. And sometimes the tickets are cheaper during the week as well.Professor: It looks like Emily and Peter like going to the movies at different times. Did you hear the difference, Winnie? Professor: That#39;s right, and Peter says the tickets are cheaper during the week too. What kind of movies do you think they like? Professor: Let#39;s listen and find out.P: I like watching comedies, like ;Borat;. Do you like watching comedies too?E: Not really, I like watching horror movies, like ;The Unborn;.P: You like horror movies? I don#39;t like them because they#39;re too scary! I like comedies because I love to laugh.E: I like horror movies because I like to be scared. Professor: Well, Winnie, for some kinds of movies, you don#39;t have to use the word ;movies; after them. For example, you can talk about ;comedies,; ;dramas; and ;thrillers;, and everyone will know you#39;re talking about movies. Professor: I think if they really like each other, they#39;ll find a way to solve the problem. Let#39;s listen.P: Well, it#39;s too bad that we like different kinds of movies. Maybe we#39;re just different kinds of people.E: Yeah it#39;s too bad ... but actually I think I know what to do.P: What#39;s that?E: We can go to a horror movie, and I#39;ll hold your hand so you don#39;t get scared.P: You mean ... like on a second date?E: Of course! Or are you still too scared!P: No way! That sounds great! Professor: That was indeed very smart of her, Winnie! It looks like this date was a success after all. Professor: Well, we#39;ll have to listen in next time and see what happens. /201208/195255
